New Gorillaz video

Music Video / Film

The first video from the new Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach, has been released online, and stars Noodle, 2-D and Murdoc in a car chase with the cops and, um, Bruce Willis...

The video, for single Stylo, is directed by Jamie Hewlett (natch) in collaboration with Passion Pictures' Pete Candeland. It combines live action and animation, and sees the Gorillaz animated characters appear in CG for the first time.

It's always exciting to see a new Gorillaz video, and getting Willis involved was unlikely to have been cheap, but despite this, we at CR are actually a touch underwhelmed by both promo and song... What do you think?

If the video above is disabled, it can be viewed at YouTube here.

It's high time highways came back to music videos. This video is slightly darker than I expected

This looks more like a test for something great.. hopefully something great will follow soon... the characters look amazing in 3D but the direction and narrative are a bit wobbly.. even for a promo.
Like the tune tho.. :)

dull like colt seavers and other route 66 races plus that deep sea escape option. gorillaz will appeal to them teenage emos though. again

I pretty much detest 'celebs' popping up in music videos and I'm not a massive Gorillaz fan, but I do like this track - excellent driving bassline and Bobby Womack's vocals are superb. To their credit, Gorillaz are always trying to innovate, like him or loathe him Damon Albarn is a supremely talented guy.

shame they couldn't get the lipsync right. presumably just an issue with the vimeo upload?

Like the song and I'm not normally a big fan of Gorillaz. Video's fun - good ol' Brucie! But don't think they needed the FX shots of dark clouds/Death and weird whale at the end. Car chase/Bruce Willis/3D characters - what more do you need?!

#Nicholas- I got the impression they were pressing all the buttons on their computer shouting 'Oh god...look what this one does!' Nice to see Brucie avoiding stereotyping by driving a fast red car & shooting a big gun. Has anyone seen the Ok Go vid- it's that Honda Rapper Delight thing that evvvvvvvvveryone did ages ago- but it's the best application of the idea I've ever seen.

People who make those videos are genius. I watched the video that they made for The Beatles rock band launch and I loved it.

The video suffers from the song being weak. The video has no energy to play with.
