Matthew Broderick's day off

Ever wondered what happened to Ferris Bueller? Well, he's back. Older, puffier, and having swapped Cameron's dad's Ferrari for a, er, Honda CR-V in a Superbowl spot

Now we are aware that, for many, Ferris Bueller's Day Off is one of those films that will forever be sacrosanct. If you are one of those, you might not want to press play on the clip below.

Other than the somewhat clunky reference to the product, it's very well done with lots of references (some more subtle than others) to the original. The ad was directed by Todd Phillips, who also directed The Hangover.

I won't watch the ad. Too much out respect for John Hughes to go there.

This seems to be getting a lot of hate and I cant understand why. Sure, FBDO is a good film and a classic but it's not above being reinterpreted. I guess the fact that its being used to sell products is a bit of an insult but it could have been done by a much worse company and in a much worse way (thinking star wars/ PC world here).

This is well directed and obviously done with a love of the original, its funny and it is enjoyable.

Saying it is crap just because you are viewing it through rose tinted 80's glasses is unfair and does a disservice to those who worked on this ad.

I'm not viewing it through rose tinted 80's glasses, FBDO is not on my favourite film list, and this is still awful. If FBDO fans don't like this ad then hasn't it failed?

Great concept, but sorry, where is the energy, the fun... anything which is in the actual film which made it iconic? You bought the cigar, you just couldn't light it! Shame.

Jeeeeezus H Christ

Just plain awful

Not funny, not clever,

It could have been better... maybe... maybe if Broderick didn't looks so painfully aware of what he's just committed to.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha uhhh!

Loved ferris not too keen on his fatter older self.

Would have been better if the old movie was in the advert...
iconic moments renenacted are always a bit stale, not quite the word Im looking for, cliched but where these scenes not already.

Anyhow I will not be buying a Honda? what was this advert for?

So too me that advert is a FAIL!
You cannot not trump John Walters at his own game. With whatever you do Walters is un-trumpable.
Is un-trumpable is that even a word.

Its a FAIL as this advert doesn't sell me the car it sells me the NEED TO WATCH FERRIS BUELLERS DAY OFF.

As they say you have been bested.

Cameron: What'd I do?
Feris: You killed the car... (luckily not the film, i will be looking for my VHS player this evening though)

I can imagine everyone getting really excited on this one. It was a nice idea, however, it must have looked great only on paper.

Completely agree with "Chinese Dave", it makes me want to watch the film again, however not to go and purchase a CR-V. I would be more inclined to drool over pictures of Ferrari's that I cant afford.

Whether you've seen the film or not it's still an odd, awkward ad.

Advertising full of clichés (family, work, success, fun), dull ... if there had been starring Matthew, would be totally insignificant.
