VW: The Dog Strikes Back

Volkswagen is the latest brand to pre-release its Super Bowl commercial online. Clearly hoping to maximise on its success last year with its Star Wars-themed ad, for the 2012 game the brand has turned to a dog to provide the cutesy appeal that will get people sharing the spot...
The ad was trailed by an impressive Star Wars barkathon but actually, the link to Star Wars is really pretty tenuous this time, with Deutsch LA getting around this by creating a slightly strange ad-within-an-ad. It does feature an exceptionally cute dog though, so maybe that's all that matters. The version below is an extended 75-second spot, a 60-second version will play out during the game.

Lazy, teaser was much more creative use of the license. This is on par with that Vodaphone Yoda advert.
Seems brands are willing to pay millions for character rights if it turns into millions of views. Either that or George Lucas has a terrible gambling problem.

Tedious link indeed! I think we've seen enough Star Wars themed adverts recently.

Could do without the Star War epilogue bit. The dog part is strong enough on it's own.

There is a creative chasm between the VW hund and the Starwars thingummyjig that needs thirty feet of rope and a helmet to cross.
