Kinda Studios neuroaesthetics

Can neuroscience make you a better creative?

Kinda Studios is tapping into the emerging field of neuroaesthetics to help creatives and brands make more impactful work that benefits people’s wellbeing

“The way we describe neuroaesthetics is really the neuroscience of how our brains and bodies respond to our environment. The smells, the sounds, the textures, the shapes, the colours, all of these different aspects,” says Robyn Landau, co-founder and director of Kinda Studios. “Once you start to realise that these have been shown scientifically to affect us, it becomes incredibly important what environments we place ourselves in and the way that we design them.”

The emerging field of neuroaesthetics, which has been developing rapidly over the last 15 to 20 years, is at the heart of the female-led, London-based studio’s work. Since launching in 2020, Landau and fellow co-founder Katherine Templar Lewis have established a new kind of agency model offering fascinating insights into human perception, creativity and feeling, working with clients across the art and culture sector as well as brands including Nike, Soho House and Bentley.

The two co-founders originally came from wildly different worlds. Lewis is an expert in human and cognitive science while Landau started her career in the music and entertainment industries. After both stumbling into neuroaesthetics and meeting serendipitously, their backgrounds became the perfect metaphor for the studio’s mission of bringing together the previously siloed worlds of science and creativity.
