Raw Materials on the benefits of being unusual

At just a year old, the design agency was awarded D&AD’s design agency of the year. Here CR speaks to the founders to understand what they’re doing differently and how it’s impacting their work

New York-based design company Raw Materials is just a year old but already it’s causing a stir in the industry with its “unusual” approach and its commitment to find genuinely new solutions for its clients that typically sit in the digital product design world.

“The big idea that made all three of us come together was that we wanted to create the right conditions for creativity to solve problems and create great things,” says co-founder and CEO John Roescher.

“There probably isn’t an agency out there who would say that isn’t what they’re after. But from coming from different backgrounds we felt there was a lack of that, or at least a lack of the effects you would expect to see [from that approach].”
